The first informal meeting held for people interested in operating a stall at Ryan Park was held at Katherine High School Conference Room on Thursday 19th March.

Norma described the Katherine Community Market concept to guests and talked about how stall operators can use approved commercial kitchen facilities to make products for their stalls. The unique features of the Ryan Park location for holding the market were explained along with details about exclusive use of car parking on Railway Terrace by market patrons on Saturdays.

Guests raised several good ideas about operating the market and satisfying the needs of stall holders.

Questions about the type of items to bring to the market and how creating opportunity by providing a place for farmers, small enterprise and individuals to trade within the community were the main areas of discussion.

A discussion about how this website works to provide a way for stall holders to display thier items and the way patrons can view and make enquiries about what will be available each Saturday was explained.

The website features free display pages and a shopping basket enquiry system to help stall holders develop direct client relationships.

Supporting newspaper promotion, conduct of each market, the website and weekly administration are all inclusive in the “Not for Profit” operating principle and the stall fees structure is intended to just recover operating costs, keeping them as low as possible.
